The greater Sacramento area is home to an estimated 30,000 to 75,000 Muslims, representing roughly 3% of the region’s population. This interactive map was created to support and empower the Muslim community in the greater Sacramento area by connecting individuals and families with essential services, organizations, and support networks. The map highlights a wide range of resources and includes 5 categories:
- Halal food providers (restaurants, coffee shops, delis)
- Muslim-owned businesses (grocery stores, supermarkets, other specialties)
- Education (K–12 schools, Islamic education, adult education, ESL, libraries)
- Community services (medical/mental health, disability services, legal aid, childcare, housing, financial aid)
- Religious sites (mosques and Islamic cultural centers)
The goal of this project is to foster a stronger, more informed, and connected community by making it easier to access trusted services and spaces while uplifting Muslim-owned businesses and services. By bringing all these resources together in one single platform, we hope to reduce barriers, encourage civic engagement, and build lasting connections between individuals, families, and support networks.
This Belonging Map is a collaborative project between Sacramento State’s Inclusive Excellence office and the Department of Geography. This is an ongoing project and it’s being routinely updated.
