 American Muslim Appreciation and Awareness

In recognition of American Muslim Appreciation and Awareness Month (AMAAM), cities across California came together in April 2025 to honor the contributions, history, and lived experiences of Muslim communities throughout the state.

AMAAM serves as an opportunity to uplift the leadership, service, and resilience of American Muslims who continue to strengthen California’s civic, cultural, and economic fabric. In the greater Sacramento region alone, an estimated 80,000 Muslim residents contribute daily through faith-based service, small businesses, education, healthcare, public service, and community organizing.

In 2025, AMAAM was officially recognized by multiple cities, including Sacramento, Elk Grove, and West Sacramento, with the observance extending beyond the immediate region to communities such as Davis and broader areas of Central California. These recognitions reflect a growing statewide commitment to inclusion, religious literacy, and acknowledging the long-standing presence of Muslim communities in California.

The Council of Sacramento Valley Islamic Organizations (COSVIO) is proud to support and amplify AMAAM as part of its ongoing mission to foster unity, civic engagement, and cross-community understanding. Through coalition-building, public education, and partnership with local governments, COSVIO continues to work toward a Sacramento Valley where Muslim communities are seen, valued, and fully included.

AMAAM is not only a celebration, it is a reminder of the importance of dignity, belonging, and shared responsibility in building a just and inclusive society.
